Dark Light

From Obscurity

I have three polished mystery novels. Over the last decade, I’ve had two literary agents, a couple of close calls with major publishers, and zero books on the shelf to show for it.

I’m done waiting for permission.

Over the next year, I am publishing three distinct novels set in the shadows of the Inland Northwest. This website is the chronicle of that attempt. I’m moving from obscurity to the bookshelf, one novel at a time. Join me, and let’s see what we can dig up.

PNW Noir

The Pacific Northwest isn’t just trees and rain; it’s a place where the fog hides things. That is where I live, and that is where I write.

Based in Spokane, Washington, I have spent a lifetime dissecting the English language, earning an MFA, and working within the university system. But the best mysteries aren’t found in a syllabus. They are found in the choices we make when we think no one is watching.

After years of writing novels in the dark, I decided to bypass traditional publishing. Starting in the fall of 2026, I’m releasing three mystery novels that explore the grit, the gray morality, and the stark reality of life in the Inland Northwest.

Currently Reading: All the Light You Cannot See by Anthony Doerr: This is a stupendous book on a dozen levels which we will get into later.

Currently Writing: Polishing up a manuscript before sending it to beta readers.
